From the classroom to your kitchen table
A little practice, together.
For mum, dad and anyone helping at home. Try one activity for 5–10 minutes. Keep it friendly; help when needed and finish with something your child can do.
Reading
Our first sounds
Ask your child to say the sounds they know, blend three words, then read the short passage with you. Reread it and talk about what happened.
Practise: sat · pat · tap · sap · at
Maths
Counting to ten
Put out up to ten spoons or blocks. Ask your child to touch each one once while counting. Move them into a different arrangement and count again: the amount stays the same.
Ask: “How did you work that out?” A drawing, counters or fingers can help your child explain.
A useful note for the teacher
Tell your teacher what your child managed independently and where you helped. This link shares activities; it does not automatically send results to school.
